Tourism Learning Area The member municipalities of Akademi Norr (AN) are working for strategic development within the tourism trade in the region by:• Creating a long-term structure for knowledge-driven development
• Improving the prerequisites for learning, innovation, competitiveness and sustainability • Adopting a holistic view of knowledge • Placing their own resources at disposal • Involving other interested parties within tourism development
As early as 2004 Akademi Norr carried out a pilot study in order to describe the possibilities for a major joint venture for a framework programme within the tourism area. Cf Final report Framework Programme Study 0412 (in Swedish only) The framework programme was never launched but formed a basis for further dialogue withinl Akademi Norr and resulted in an initiative for regional cooperation towards knowledge-driven tourism development. The model that has served as a basis for the work is "A Tourism Learning Area (TLA)" and the handbook "How to create a tourism learning area" which was published by the European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry. The handbook is a link in the EU work towards the aim of improving the competitiveness of European tourism and creating more employments through increased competence within the tourism trade. Cf the TLA Handbok 0611 Akademi Norr therefore carried out a pilot study "Tourism Learning Area" during 0611-0712, in which the possibilities for developing a system for knowledge-driven growth within the tourism trade were investigated. The pilot study resulted in a comprehensive model for knowledge-driven tourism development within the Akademi Norr region and is now being initiated within the framework of the EU funded Objective 2 project: "Akademi Norr - Motorfunktionen". The model is based on the key components COOPERATION, LEARNING and DEVELOPMENT and can be summed up by the following illustration: Cf TLA Model Summary 0910 For a full description: Cf TLA Model 0910 The municipal learning centres have a key role in the work with TLA as local MEETING PLACES, MIDDLEMEN and MOTORS. Contact the learning centre in "your" municipality, if you would like to discuss cooperation and development.
